Trump ends Canada trade talks over reagan ad

by admin477351

President Donald Trump has abruptly “terminated” all trade negotiations with Canada, citing what he called “egregious behavior” by the northern neighbor. The move was announced on his social platform following the release of a Canadian advertisement.
The ad in question, sponsored by the province of Ontario, features excerpts from a 1987 speech by former president Ronald Reagan criticizing trade tariffs. Trump immediately denounced the ad as “fraudulent” and “fake.”
He further accused Canada of attempting to interfere with upcoming US supreme court hearings on the legality of his global tariffs, which are set to begin on November 5th. Secretary of state Marco Rubio later confirmed that all trade talks with Ottawa have been suspended.
The ad campaign was launched by Ontario premier Doug Ford, whose province has been severely impacted by the escalating trade war. The US originally placed 25% tariffs on Canadian goods like steel and timber, which Trump later increased to 35%. The ad features Reagan saying, “trade barriers hurt every American worker.”
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation & Institute has also criticized the ad, stating the “selective audio” misrepresents Reagan’s full comments and that permission was not sought. The foundation noted it is “reviewing its legal options.”
