Russia Responds to Trump’s Oil Claim with Major India Defense Push

by admin477351

Russia has announced a significant reinforcement of its long-standing defense partnership with India, a move that comes directly after claims by US President Donald Trump regarding India’s oil trade. Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov emphasized that the cooperation, which spans over six decades, is evolving far beyond a simple buyer-seller relationship.
In a Delhi address, Alipov underscored the depth of this alliance, noting that “Approximately 70 percent of India’s military equipment is of Russian origin.” He cited this extensive arsenal’s effectiveness, pointing to “Operation Sindoor” as a testament to its operational success. This foundation, he suggested, is built on a legacy of shared battlefield experience.
The ambassador highlighted the success of existing joint ventures, such as the production of BrahMos supersonic missiles, Su-30 MKI jets, T-90 tanks, and AK-203 rifles. He promised that these shared achievements “will continue to expand,” signaling a deepening of technological collaboration.
Looking ahead, Alipov proposed ambitious new projects, including the local production of the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter to support India’s indigenous AMCA program. He also mentioned that discussions are underway for drones, anti-drone systems, and advanced radar technology.
This defense announcement was strategically timed, following Trump’s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi “assured” him India would halt Russian oil purchases. Both India and Russia swiftly countered this. The MEA prioritized “consumer interests,” while Alipov stressed that Russian oil remains “beneficial” to the Indian economy.
