Harrowing scenes of displacement and destruction have given way to hope after Thailand and Cambodia negotiated a ceasefire to end their deadliest border conflict in over a decade. The violence drove approximately 200,000 people from their homes and caused dozens of deaths.
Malaysia’s role as mediator proved decisive, facilitating an immediate agreement between military and political leaders of both countries. Plans are now underway for ongoing talks and joint monitoring by border committees.
