Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on Israel to cease the expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank and to address the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. These comments were made during a meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog at a conference in Azerbaijan, as reported by China’s Foreign Ministry.
Wang Yi emphasized China’s stance that the Palestinian issue is a significant historical injustice and underscored the necessity of finding a political solution to the ongoing conflict. He advocated for the expansion of humanitarian access to Gaza, highlighting the deteriorating conditions in the region. Furthermore, Wang expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with the international community to encourage dialogue and pursue a peaceful resolution between the involved parties.
China has consistently supported a two-state solution, advocating for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state alongside Israel. In addition to promoting Palestinian reconciliation, Beijing has been involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions throughout the Middle East.
During the discussions, President Herzog focused on bilateral relations and the broader situation in the region. He reiterated Israel’s commitment to peace while expressing concerns over security threats, particularly those posed by Iran and its regional allies.
The Gaza situation remains precarious despite a ceasefire initiated in October 2025. Challenges such as Israeli military actions, displacement, and humanitarian issues persist, with progress towards advancing the ceasefire agreement stalling due to mutual accusations of violations by both Israel and Hamas.
This exchange between China and Israel underscores ongoing international efforts to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza, and revive diplomatic negotiations.
