Netanyahu Condemns Houthi Missile Strikes on Riyadh Airport Amid Rising Tensions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned a missile attack by Houthi rebels on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which resulted in at least 12 deaths and over 300 injuries. The incident has heightened tensions in the ongoing conflict in Yemen.

Netanyahu labeled the attack a “horrific terrorist attack” and extended condolences to the victims’ families. He urged a united front against terrorism, emphasizing the need to protect civilians and uphold regional security.

The airport was reportedly targeted again, with Saudi aviation authorities confirming additional injuries. Assessments of the damage are underway, and the facility remains closed following the initial attack.

The escalation has disrupted life in Riyadh, prompting Saudi authorities to suspend in-person classes and shift to remote learning. However, a major international energy conference in the capital is still expected to take place as scheduled.

The Saudi-led coalition, which backs Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Iran-backed Houthi movement, faces increasing hostilities. The Houthis have claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi airports and energy facilities, warning airlines and travelers about using a large portion of the kingdom’s airspace.

In response, the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of conducting strikes in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, reportedly resulting in the death of a child and injuries to several people. Saudi authorities have not immediately responded to these allegations.

The conflict raises concerns over the security of civilian infrastructure and the potential disruption of shipping through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a critical passageway connecting the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. Further escalation could threaten regional energy supplies and international maritime trade. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump plans to discuss the situation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman amid fears of broader regional involvement.
