Trump Pressures Netanyahu to Pull Israeli Forces from Syria, Lebanon

by admin477351

In a recent phone conversation, US President Donald Trump reportedly pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to start withdrawing Israeli forces from southern Syria and Lebanon. Trump expressed concerns that the military presence could heighten regional tensions. Netanyahu, however, reportedly defended the troop deployments, emphasizing that they are essential for Israel’s security needs and maintaining border security zones.

The exchange between the two leaders takes place amidst ongoing US-supported negotiations aiming to orchestrate a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from designated “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon. The discussions, held in Rome, have been described as constructive by officials from both Israel and Lebanon, with further talks planned to advance the withdrawal strategy.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has indicated that Israel is ready to proceed with the agreement concerning the pilot zones. However, he stressed that security concerns remain Israel’s top priority as the negotiations continue.

The broader diplomatic efforts intend to alleviate tensions and foster stability along Israel’s northern borders. These negotiations are part of a larger initiative to ensure a peaceful and secure environment in the region, which has experienced longstanding conflicts and territorial disputes.
