Israel’s Electric Co. Launches Pilot for Solar-Powered iLamp Lighting System

The Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) has initiated a pilot project to test iLamp Israel’s innovative autonomous solar lighting system at one of its facilities. This marks the first time the utility will assess the technology in an operational setting. The pilot aims to evaluate the iLamp system’s performance, reliability, and adaptability to coastal conditions, which will be crucial in determining its potential for broader application.

iLamp’s system integrates multiple functionalities into a single lighting pole, featuring LED lighting, a 360-degree solar array, and battery storage. This design allows the system to operate independently by generating and storing its own electricity, eliminating the need for a traditional grid connection. Additionally, the platform supports edge-computing capabilities, processing data locally rather than relying solely on a centralized system.

The IEC will closely monitor the system’s performance against a set of pre-defined technical and operational criteria. This evaluation will inform any decisions regarding the continuation or expansion of the deployment. Anna Finkelstein from iLamp Israel highlighted the pilot’s importance, noting that it offers a valuable opportunity to gather data in a challenging environment and assess the technology’s real-world efficacy.

Albert Taubi, a director at iLamp Israel, emphasized that securing IEC’s approval is a significant step towards introducing autonomous solar infrastructure to larger-scale operations. The immediate focus will be on completing the installation and thoroughly evaluating its performance in the coming months. It’s important to note that this pilot does not equate to a blanket approval for widespread deployment. Any future expansions will require a separate evaluation based on the results of this initial project.

iLamp Israel holds the exclusive rights to the iLamp platform in the country, a technology originally developed by the UK-based Conflow Power Group Ltd. As the pilot progresses, the insights gained will play a crucial role in deciding the feasibility of implementing this autonomous solar lighting system on a larger scale.
